We provide residential & community outreach programs
dedicated to developing healthy families & helping women & children impacted
by domestic violence.
Funded primarily through donations from community
supporters, Sonshine Community Services programs include:
Sonshine Community Counselling Services - Professional
counselling available to individuals and couples. Fees are charged on a
sliding scale, based on each client’s income. Workshops and seminars for
businesses and organizations are also available.
Sonshine Family Day Homes Agency - Operates over 20 accredited
child-care homes in Calgary as an alternative to day care. Subsidies are
available for those families who qualify.
Sonshine Centre - A one-year residential facility with
counselling and supportive programs for women and children who have
experienced family violence.
In 2008, due to the pervasiveness of domestic violence in Calgary,
Sonshine began offering domestic violence outreach services to women
who have been impacted by domestic violence, but may not need to access a
shelter. For those who require residential support, the organization’s
Sonshine Centre offers safe, fully-furnished apartments with
on-site counselling and supportive services for one full year. Priority is
given to women who are assessed as being in highest risk of injury or
homicide due to domestic violence; accordingly, the facility is equipped
with 24-hour security and surveillance.
