RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
What can help me heal my emotional scars from breast cancer?
Cancer sure is a frightening word, let alone a frightening journey. Since
most don’t want to talk about it at all, your friends and family don’t fully
understand what you are going through. And the Doctors mostly treat you like
only a patient, with emphasis on your need to survive. Thank God you
survived.
Through this process, you learn to separate the body, mind and soul
connection you’ve worked so hard to find balance in. This is a very dark and
lonely place to be. Breast Cancer is unique because of intense external and
emotional changes. Every survivor’s path is unique to them, and nobody can
tell you what is right or wrong. To grieve the loss of your body as it was,
you learn to detach from it. But your body is nagging for you to love it
again, because it is perfect right now!
I have heard women say that they had NO clue how significant nipple
reconstruction was until they had it done, not realizing what a change it
would make for them to feel like a whole woman again; a woman worthy of love
and ready to embrace her personal power! I’ve heard them say that they’ve
glanced at their reflection in the mirror and only saw a Barbie doll-type
body; someone who has been mutilated, deformed by cancer, and put back
together. And that this reflection made them just want to disappear, not
living in the joy of what’s to come.
I’ve seen women cry as they look at their new body and attach back to their
mind’s idea of what a woman’s reflection is supposed to look like, whole and
complete. And only then to begin the process of getting back to their
“normal”, to begin to feel beautiful and renewed. Until that moment, women
didn’t realize how aware we are of how our nipples are a huge part of who we
are and how we feel about our body.
If you are thinking about this option, I urge you to explore the emotional
ties you’ve experience with your pre-cancer breasts and nipples. It may be
just the thing you need, and it may just add the dynamic you’ve been missing
in your relationship with yourself and your body. It may be that now, when
you glance at yourself in the mirror, you see a Goddess, stronger than she
ever was before and at least as beautiful!
I never realized how deeply on so many levels a woman is affected by Breast
Cancer. I am so inspired by your strength, and want to inspire you to take
back your personal power on every level that you hope to! Thank you to all
the warriors/angels walking the world. It is you who are teaching the truth
to us “experts”.
