RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
What are the myths about colon
hydrotherapy? Is there any truth to them?
A popular question! The main myths about colon hydrotherapy are as follows:
1) Your bowel will become dependent on them;
2) You will wash all your minerals and good bacteria away;
3) You only need one colonic to empty your colon, and ;
4) Colonics should not be done while menstruating.
On to the first myth. Colonics, or otherwise called colon hydrotherapy
treatments, do not irritate the colon to activate movement like drugstore
laxatives do, such as Exlax. What a colonic does is create gentle pressure,
which stimulates the pressure receptors in the colon wall causing the colon
to actual “work” to pass the water out along with the material inside the
colon. The “work” is called “peristalsis”. It is the movement of the smooth
muscle inside the whole digestive tract, starting with the esophagus and
ending with the rectum. This also includes the final stage of digestion and
the last part of the large intestine. This smooth muscle action loses its
tone, just like your skeletal muscles do when you do not work out regularly.
When we do not eat enough fiber, we lose muscle tone in the colon, and it
becomes clogged and out of shape. It literally changes shape over time, and
we end up feeling sluggish, tired, bloated and irritable.
A colonic will tone the colon over time and this is why it is recommended to
have a minimum of three colonics to start. With long-standing problems, more
are required along with dietary changes, fiber drinks and herbs. These can
be done over a period of months.
The second myth is not true either. There are some minerals lost during a
colonic procedure as the colon absorbs a small amount of minerals in the
ascending colon. If a person is eating normally these minerals are replaced
with their diet.
The last two myths are untrue as well. You need to have a proper
dietary/herbal regime between colonics and do at least three colonics in
order to empty the colon entirely during the colonic itself (this usually
happens on the third colonic). And yes, you can have a colonic during your
period as long as you are not too crampy to begin with.
If you are wondering if colonics are suitable for you, consider the toxicity
in this world and how one can overcome it by cleansing regularly. The axiom
“old age begins in the colon” is true.
