RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
Fall is around the corner, and it is my favorite time
to shop. What are some of the latest trends we will see?
Oh Autumn, how I love you so. Your colors, your crisp mornings and warm
afternoons, the return to school for the children and most of all, the
juicy, new fashion! Fall is definitely known for shopping whether for back
to school or for the office. In Calgary, the items we purchase in the Fall
can pretty much be worn year around so this is the best time to do some
serious shopping. I find that trends seem a little hard to nail down since
there are so many opinions out there. However, I will share with you some of
my favorites.
Military inspired pieces have been prominent for a couple seasons now, and
they are holding their course. This time around army green is the trend’s
color, and shearling is its fabric. It is about functionality and utility.
Velvet is a fabric you either love or hate, and I have been on either side
of the fence. Before you turn your nose up at this one, keep in mind that it
can be worn many different ways. It can look rock and roll chic, elegant and
luxurious, and can turn masculine looks into female dandy. Keep your eyes
open for this fabric as you are going to see it everywhere.
The woman’s camel coat is the perfect layering piece for cold days coming
our way. The coat is a sign that nowadays fashion is going back to basics.
After all, warm honey hues work with everything and suit almost every skin
tone. Also, make way for the capes and shawls that we all love to throw over
ourselves. One of the most classically elegant looks I can think of is a
vintage cape. Leather will make a big statement here and will make a pair of
jeans look amazing.
Popular trends in footwear see the continuation of the thigh high boot. They
are not so daring these days and in elegant suede, they actually look
classy. The nude pump will still remain a top pick. They are the new black
shoe in my book. Fur boots and mukluks will be very visible and are
opportune for expressing one’s creativity.
Remember that shopping for Fall items does not have to mean it is expensive.
Many of the latest designer looks are recreated in stores like H&M. Splurge
on classics that will last and look amazing for many seasons to come.
Rethink the underwear as an outerwear trend, unless you are Lady Gaga. Most
of all, express yourself through your clothes and have fun doing it.
