RISING WOMEN EXPERT ADVICE...

I want to create a better life for myself and my family. I want to take control of my income and the way I spend my time. Any ideas?

Many people, including myself, never seem to have enough time in a day or enough money to live the life we really desire. We spend too much time making money for someone else and miss out on important things in life, all the while knowing that in today’s world, nothing is for certain anymore. There is no such thing as job security. Lay offs and downsizing make many jobs obsolete. So yes, it would be nice to find an alternative where you would have the flexibility to balance your family and business.

Many entrepreneurial-minded people are starting their own businesses. They are creating a better life for themselves and their families by taking control of their income and the way they spend their time. They are doing this through “direct selling” and “network marketing”. A truly successful company is one that offers both. Did you know that many universities, including Harvard, are teaching network marketing? It is definitely the way of the future. When choosing a network marketing company, there are four key factors to look for. These include marketplace demand, consumable product, timing and trends, and the ability to leverage your time. And with today’s technology, small businesses can expand their reach for customers from a local business to a global enterprise almost overnight and the comfort of their own home.

Interested? Well, you will want to do some research before starting your business. How long has the company been in business? What is their target market? Have you tried the product you want to sell? Is the company you will be representing a member of the DSA (Direct Selling Association)? This is the organization that monitors direct selling companies to assure that they are legal and ethical.

Other things to consider include: Is the start up cost within your budget? Is there training and on going support? Is your sponsor there to help you progress to the level you desire? Are there rewards and recognition?

My advice is to start small but don’t wait. Build it alongside your present career or around your family’s schedule. By working when the kids are in school or in the evening when your husband is home, you are your own boss and set your own schedule.
