RISING WOMEN EXPERT ADVICE...

Now that the cooler weather is here, how can I transition my wardrobe from summer to fall and update my fashion?

September is a great month for fashion! You can mix a lot of your summer clothing in with your Fall wardrobe. Be playful by wearing your sun dresses, tank tops and skirts with boots, a jacket and a scarf for a perfect style statement. Maximize use of your Fall staples: cardigans, denim jackets and blazers are welcome new pieces.

The Fall wardrobe is gorgeous with a blend of rich color and earthy neutrals. Keep bold or light color in your wardrobe and mix in darker hues. Use navy blue, grey, chocolate brown and black as your darker neutrals. White as an accent is refreshing. Deep teal is flattering on all. Keep colors youthful and fun.

Accessories are key to updating the transitional wardrobe. Trade in your beach bag for your Fall handbag in a deeper shade. Add a few scarves to your wardrobe to provide strong color or interesting texture around your face. Hats are always chic and great for Fall. Fedoras and berets are a great way to add personality. Fedoras are relaxed and cool; berets are glamorous and chic. Hair bands can be sophisticated or whimsical. A signature belt peeking out from behind a jacket is a great way to define your waist and create that hour-glass shape. Have a classic coat to complete your look.

Avoid wearing items from your deep Winter wardrobe. For example: all black ensembles are depressing! Turtle-neck sweaters can wait! If you wear black on top, add color or texture around your face with a scarf or necklace. Secondly, avoid heavy makeup. Maintain your summer glow with moisturizer and apply makeup light and natural in your best tones. Avoid pastel eye shadows from Summer and move into the earthy neutrals of the Autumn palette. Pink, plum, or peach lipstick finishes a beautiful face.

The biggest change this season is in footwear. Time to surrender the flipflops of Summer and pack them until next year. Bring out your closed-toe pumps, boots of all types, and flats and wear them with skirts, jeans or leggings. Boots are your key fashion item for any outfit.

Take advantage of the mild weather; wear your jackets and blazers at play or work and savor your Fall coat while you can!
