RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
Is building weight loss and physical health results as much an attitude
of my mind as what I do physically?
Absolutely! If you think about starting a physical, emotional, mental or
Spiritual wellness plan and your brain automatically dumps excuses of why
you shouldn’t do it, this is your attitude. It’s a negative mind chatter
loop. An example of a negative mind chatter loop is, “I want to..., but it’s
too hard for me...” “I don’t think I can…”, “I’m not good enough...” “I
can’t do it...” The critical thoughts stop you and you turn to the comfort
of your preferred escape or pleasure: computer, TV, shopping, sleep, food,
daydreaming, alcohol, drugs, work, reading, etc. These soft and hard
addictions help you escape from life’s discomforts.
Your attitude is a combination of your thoughts, worries, fears and beliefs.
It directly affects your physical and emotional wellbeing, health, body
image, stress levels, weight and actions. It can influence your physical and
emotional health as much as what you do or don’t do, eat or don’t eat. Your
attitude comes from your unconscious mind. Your unconscious mind: (a) wants
to care for you and keep you safe; (b) controls your pleasure pain response
and your automatic fight or flight response; (c) carries beliefs that help
you interpret your experiences through your life, and; (d) is how you
generally see life, what you think about different people or situations, how
you feel about yourself and your body, activities, foods and what you do or
don’t do, what you believe or don’t believe.
Your unconscious mind interprets things through personal filters that are
based on experiences you have had through your lifetime(s). They are a
combination of: (1) your senses of what you see, hear, feel, taste, smell
and intuit; (2) how you interpret events, people and things from the past;
(3) what you learned at home, school, church, etc.; (4) family genetic
codes; (5) positive or limiting beliefs that developed, and; (6) Spiritual
choices, preferences and past life events. All of these affect your body,
mind and Spirit.
Homework: When a loop of critical thoughts surfaces, pickup a notebook and
write down the thoughts. Replace them with positive, powerful, personal
affirmations such as, “I Jan, am becoming more energized, healthy and happy
every day!” Repeat this affirmation many times daily.
As your attitude shifts, the changes radiate throughout your physical,
emotional, mental and Spiritual well being in positive and healthy ways.
