ASK OUR EXPERTS...

I’m doing it all; work, children, home and family commitments. How can I de-stress and balance my life?

As workers, women, nurturers and parents, caring for others can give us pleasure. But when we rush from the first thing in the morning to past bedtime, with no time to stop, think or take care of ourselves, we may end up doing so much that we lose our selfhood and even cause dis-ease in our body, mind and Spirit.

To change old patterns, certain counselling such as NLP for instance, works with you to re-program limiting beliefs and unwanted behaviors. It guides you to overcome old blocks. It automatically integrates positive beliefs and behaviors that support you in your life. The ideal outcome is that you start to change the things that stop you from living with balance. You develop your belief in yourself so you know that you deserve to take care of yourself, and you discover hidden stressors and learn to de-stress in ways that work for you and “your” life.

To begin on your own, start to notice what life areas you are unbalanced in. What do you spend “too much” time and energy on? Where do you do “too much” for others? What life areas? Who for? When? Write down the signs and patterns that let you know that you are unbalanced. Notice and write down several things you could change in each life area. Then prioritize them by asking yourself what is most important? What could be easiest? What could have the biggest positive impact?

Next, think about how you changed in the past. What didn’t work then? What did work? Did you take small steps or just jump in and do it? What types of support did you have? What else supported you to make the changes? Write down what keeping each of those patterns has cost you in the past in time, money, energy, self esteem, relationships, career or your health.

Decide what you are willing to change? Take one small chunk and change by taking one step at a time. Make a plan. Prioritize. Keep it simple. Enlist appropriate support where you need it. Pay attention to what is working and change what isn’t working.

Finally, focus on manifesting the changes you want by imagining how your life would be, having already made those changes. Remember that you have the power to create your dreams!
