What is a Personal Lifestyle Coach and the benefits received from
personal coaching?
By Marion Smith-Olson of Soul Sifting Inc.
A Personal Lifestyle Coach asks questions to access the client’s inner
knowledge and wisdom to achieve the clients “desired outcome”. A Personal
Coach is a non-judgmental listener. This means they learn to use all their
senses, which allows the coach to pick up on any resistance or non-verbal
clues of discomfort that a client may have towards an issue. This is very
important for the client because it creates a safe and secure environment
where they can voice their fears, concerns and deepest desires.
A Personal Coach will encourage the client to review their whole life by
inquiring about areas that are thriving or maybe in disarray or
uncomfortable for the client to talk about. When a client can visually see
all the areas of their life, they start to draw a picture in their minds of
how some parts of their lives may need attention.
A Personal Coach will introduce new skills and strategies to enable the
client to move through obstacles and promote a healthy, balanced and
successful lifestyle. They do not give advice or proclaim to know more about
the client’s life unless asked to give this feedback. When a client has
decided to take action, a coach helps them become accountable for this
action ensuring that the client stays focused and achieves their “desired
outcome”.
Benefits of Personal Lifestyle Coaching include:
- Increased personal clarity: the ability to think in a number of
different ways and to arrive at a solution.
- Increased self-awareness: being aware of who we are and the
boundaries we use to protect us.
- Increased self-confidence and self-esteem: having the knowledge
that we can do what needs to be done, which increases one’s self-esteem --
“believing in ones self”.
- Increased independence and personal control: being free to make our
own decisions and choices free of the influence of others.
- Feelings of peacefulness: free of inner turmoil.
In conclusion, when an individual has decided to create a change or wants to
embark on a new life direction, a Personal Coach can provide the essential
tools, support and encouragement for the individual to aspire to new
heights, a new self-awareness and a feeling or sense that “I am Good
Enough”.
