Authentically You...Dressing to Reflect Your True Personality

By Leslie Davies of Impact Image Essentials Group

Have you ever admired a friends’ personal style and then tried on her outfit only to discover that you felt like you were wearing a costume? Do you find that your requirement to look professional for work stifles who you are on the inside? Tapping into your “personality potential” by looking to your physical characteristics can help you to align who you are on the inside with the personal style you show to the world.

If you believe that most everything in this world is by design then it makes sense that our physical features; facial shape, body and hair are congruent with our personality. We can use this information to help point us in the direction of tapping into our true style - a style that suits our personality AND that feels right! Following are six primary style and personality types and the physical features that distinguish them. Start by identifying which physical descriptions most closely describe you and then use the corresponding “Fashion” description to help refine your look and reflect your true, authentic personality. Which one or combination are you?

1) CLASSIC - The Classic woman has oval balanced proportions in her facial features and a well-modelled mouth. Her body is of average height, balanced and well-proportioned. Her hair is usually wavy and hairstyle is neat, plain and everything is in its place. She is refined, poised, gracious, organized and efficient and likes things done properly.

- Classic Fashion...The Classic woman likes to be well coordinated and “put together”, conservative and classic. Clothing is understated, timeless, elegant and even her casual clothing looks dressy. Jewellery is tasteful, refined and minimal. She is meticulously groomed and enjoys dressing up and wearing pantyhose and pumps. The Classic woman loves wearing scarves for practical purposes and for tasteful enhancement. Her make-up is moderate, conservative and expertly applied.

2) ROMANTIC - The Romantic woman’s physical features are rounded, curvy and voluptuous, and the ultimate in femininity. She has wide, round and large eyes and a curved full mouth, high cheekbones and rounded cheeks. Her hair is soft, full, curly, thick and long and her hairstyle is sexy.

Romantic Fashion...Sexy looking, feminine and romantic. May either be sexy and seductive, or romantic and innocent looking. The Romantic woman enjoys her jewellery in short to medium lengths, intricate or sparkly and may draw attention to the erogenous zones. Belts are worn to show off her curviness and are embellished with beautiful buckles. She enjoys medium to high heels, ornate details and her make-up is soft looking for daytime and smouldering for evening.

3) CREATIVE - The Creative woman is usually more petite and has a fine/delicate bone structure, with a gently rounded body. Her facial shape and features are soft and fine and eyes are large and wide open. Her cheeks are rounded and nose is small and may be slightly turned up. Hair is fine, soft and wispy, may have curl, and is often light. Complexion is light and delicate.

Creative Fashion...this is the most difficult style to mimic if it’s not authentic to you. The Creative woman is youthful looking, off-beat, distinctive, original and out of the ordinary. Hats look fantastic as do funky boots, and mismatched unique garments. Her scarves are beaded, fringed, ethnic or knitted, tied at the hip or inventively knotted. Accessories and details are unusual. Her make-up is experimental and her nails are worn short and may be polished in dark, trendy colours.

4) DRAMATIC - The Dramatic woman is slender, tall and has long legs, a model’s body. She has flat hips and square shoulders. She has high cheekbones, angular features and deep set eyes. Her nose is long, pointed and her mouth is thin, wide and flatly curved. Her hair is either straight and sleek or severe and extreme. Her coloring is dramatic and high contrast.

Dramatic Fashion...the Dramatic woman is “noticed”, fashion-forward and trendy, and enjoys expensive looking clothes that are of high quality. Color and style of clothing is always bold, extreme and avante-garde. Her scarves are large, dramatic or patterned, and oversized shawls draped across the shoulders are perfect. Her belts are medium to large in size, with eye-catching buckles. Shoes are high fashion and unusual, angular, pointed toes and high heels. Make-up is bold and dramatic and nails are often perfected, sculpted and long.

5) NATURAL - The Natural woman is short to average in height, has a small to medium bone structure and balanced body shape. Her facial shape has more straight lines than curved and her eyes are wide, twinkling and friendly. Her face is “pixie-ish” and boyish. Hair is short, casual and windblown.

- Natural Fashion...the Natural woman, is just that, natural. Comfort is most important when getting dressed, and the look is carefree, casual and breezy. She appreciates things that are authentic and free pretense. She dresses with flair and attitude, and her details are plain, simple, uncluttered and functional. She prefers to avoid pantyhose but will choose opaque, textured tights instead. She wears minimal make-up, maybe eyeliner and a little lipgloss when getting “dressed up”.

6) ELEGANT SPORTY - The Elegant, Sporty woman is tall, has a strong athletic build and broad shoulders. Her facial shape is usually square or long and broad. Her eyebrows are heavy and straight and nose may be large and strong, and mouth is wide. She likes to wear her hair long in a casual style.

Elegant, Sporty Fashion...Elegant, poised yet informal, practical and comfortable all describe the fashion for the Elegant, Sporty woman. Her look is traditional, reliable and practical and clothing is of high-quality and tailored. She wears high-quality, silk scarves in elegant patterns and wears them draped or tied casually. Shoes have a low to medium heel. She enjoys wearing boots and chunky knitwear. Jewellery is heavy and authentic, and she takes little time for grooming or applying make-up.
