RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
What are the causes of menopausal symptoms
and can you suggest any natural remedies?
Menopause, or the cessation of menses in a woman can get really nasty.
However, some sail through it and others do not. The main reason for this is
related to the adrenal glands. When the adrenal glands, which produce stress
hormones, are low in function due to overuse, the hormones are not at all
balanced causing all sorts of issues. Low energy from stressed-out adrenal
glands is related to the stressed-out woman who has too much on her plate!
One of the best ways to balance your hormones is to eliminate stress. By
lowering the stress levels, you can automatically balance the hormones
naturally. The way the adrenal glands play a role in hormonal balance is
after the ovaries start to produce less estrogen, the adrenals take over
part of this responsibility to produce estrogen. With low stress this
happens naturally, but with high stress, this exchange doesn’t take place
very well.
An important note regarding hot flashes is that though lowered estrogen
levels have been accused of being the cause of hot flashes, it actually is
the fluctuations of estrogen that cause this problem.
The liver also plays a role in balancing the hormones. The liver removes
excess hormones through elimination through the bowel to keep the hormones
balanced. So, if you are constipated, watch out! By keeping your bowel
clean, you can also keep your hormones balanced.
Some of the herbs that can be used to balance out the adrenals are Ginseng,
Licorice, Schizandra, Dong Quai, Black Currant oil, Borage oil and Evening
Primrose oil. Some herbs that aid the liver include Yellowdock, Cleavers,
Dandelion, Wild Yam, Damiana, Black Cohosh, False Unicorn, Red Raspberry and
Milk Thistle. When you take the herb or herbs that are applicable to your
body, then you will feel more energy, no hot flashes, less mental and
emotional tension, and fewer mood swings. The best place to start with
hormone balance is to take the right oils, as listed above. These oils
really help with mood swings, night sweats, hot flashes and concentration.
Your need for other herbs will be more apparent once you feel better
mentally and emotionally.
Menopausal symptoms are a reality for most women but can be easily
alleviated naturally with the right advice, health regimes and the proper
supplementation.
