RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
My skin become severely dry during the winter months. How can
exfoliating or dry brushing help?
According to the International Dermal Institute, dry, dehydrated skin is a
concern in over 59% of women aged 18 and older. Especially during our
Canadian winters, dry skin can be an ongoing issue, but your symptoms can be
helped by changing a little this and a little that in your day to day.
Exfoliating and dry brushing are fantastic regimes that not only have beauty
benefits, they offer health benefits as well.
Exfoliating removes dead cells on the skins surface and stimulates cell
production lower down in the epidermis. Using exfoliating gloves, gently
scrub over your entire body while in the shower. It is best to not use any
products such as body washes or soaps unless they are made from natural or
organic moisturizing components. Try doing this regime every few days for
best results and for a noticeably brighter all over complexion. Once out of
the shower and before your skin is completely dry apply a rich moisturizing
body cream made from pure botanicals.
Much like exfoliating, dry skin brushing helps to shed dead skin cells
improving skin texture and cell renewal. This regime also offers more
outstanding internal benefits. Dry brushing increases circulation to skin.
This helps your body to eliminate metabolic wastes and aids the lymphatic
drainage of the entire body. By stimulating the lymph canals, toxic mucoid
matter is drained into the colon. Your entire system is being purified while
your lymph is better able to keep the blood and other vital tissues
detoxified.
Dry skin brushing also helps to tighten the skin and improve muscle tone by
increasing circulation and blood flow within the body. This is good news if
you have cellulite. Generally speaking, cellulite is toxic materials that
accumulate in your body’s fat cells because they are unable to be
effectively eliminated by other means. Dry brushing stimulates the skin area
helping to break down these toxins and even out the distribution of fat
deposits.
Dry brushing helps to rejuvenate the nervous system by stimulating nerve
endings in the skin. It also helps your skin to absorb nutrients by
eliminating clogged pores. Overall body health relies on healthy, breathing
skin.
For those of us who suffer from stiff and soar necks and shoulders can
definitely benefit from dry brushing too. When you dry brush, blood flow
increases in those areas creating electromagnetic energy that is stimulating
and has a profound effect on stress areas of the body.
