Visualizing Your Success - A Solid Technique to Business Success

Visualization. You have probably heard about this technique more times than you can count. And, like most business- minded individuals looking for solid, tried and tested ways to get the business success you want, you have probably disregarded this word and its associated descriptions as not right for you or your business.

Well, I have some wonderful news for you. There is such a thing as a solid, tried and tested technique for business success and goal attainment. It’s called visualization! You already have the skills and you have used this technique almost every time you have accomplished something, learned a new skill, begun and finished a project, or acquired a desired object. There is genuine science behind the feel good, positive and inspirational phrases decorating corporate walls and so many very good reasons why this technique works. There is also evidence everywhere we look. Let me explain:

If you are sitting in a comfortable chair as you read this, please focus your attention for a time on the chair.

Someone, somewhere had an idea; a strong, emotional desire to design furniture. She drew pictures, imagined the designs in her mind and imagined being recognized for her achievements by being awarded a contract with a major furniture company. She could feel the excitement of seeing her first pieces of furniture in the company showroom. And so it was.

Someone else dreamed of retailing furniture and soft goods, and had a strong emotional attachment to making it succeed. He drew pictures of how his storefront would look, how the furniture would be laid out and exactly what kind of furniture and soft goods he wished to stock. He visualized staff members giving excellent service to the many customers who came through those doors and each time he visualized, his excitement grew. His vision became more real, more detailed and closer to reality! He soon began talking to everyone about the store he planned to have, not the store he hoped to open. And soon it was so.

Another individual had a desire to own a big rig and see the country at the same time. She had a strong emotional commitment to the freedom of the open road and the feeling of owning and driving such a big vehicle. She visualized the size and shape of the rig, the colour of the cab, the horsepower, the name of her trucking company on the cab doors, the stops she would make and places she would see. She visualized the skills she would need to realize her goal, envisioned loading and unloading trailers, checking her brakes, checking in at weigh stations, and going through customs inspections. Soon, she was meeting other people who had done what she was about to do. She signed up for driver training and finally, “happened” to be in the right place at the right time and was able to buy a big rig from a fellow who was about to retire.

Finally, someone else, perhaps you, had an idea of buying furniture, envisioned it passionately, including colour and placement in the room. You shopped, saved, watched for sales and acquired the very chair in which you are now sitting in. You may have cut pictures out of magazines, catalogues or fliers, visualizing how the furniture would look in your living room, even imagining which of your favourite artwork and other treasures would look best with the new pieces. Soon, it was as if the furniture was already yours. As you saw yourself sitting in that comfy new chair, and visualizing having company sit on the new sofa while you offered drinks and appetizers, you just knew that this was most certainly going to happen! And it did. You visualized it into its current existence.

As you noticed the path this chair has taken, did you notice any similarities in the scenarios?

In all cases, the idea (which is often in and of itself visualization) was always accompanied by a strong, emotional tag and openness to the process of acquisition.

One of the most important tools we have is our power of visualization and the use of the subconscious mind. We are not ruled by the subconscious mind, but served by this wonderful part of our human make-up.

The subconscious mind is at your command and can coordinate the events in your life to fit the pattern it recognizes as your predominant feelings and wishes. It will set about to guide your actions and behaviours to bring about the result you desire.

The subconscious mind does not recognize the difference between “imaginings” and reality, nor does it operate on a time or space continuum. For this reason, when you imagine yourself successful, use positive words and affirmations, and act as though you are already successful. While doing this generate excitement, enthusiasm and passion into your visualizations. The subconscious mind, being a servant, has no choice but to follow. You will find yourself taking the necessary actions, speaking to the appropriate people, and getting closer and closer to your desired success!

The subconscious does not recognize negatives, such as “I don’t want to be poor”, but will quickly recognize phrases such as “I am wealthy and have all I need to sustain and grow this successful business”. The subconscious recognizes this as a current truth and begins the process of bringing that truth into being.

“Visualization” is really so much more than the word implies. It is creating in your “mind’s eye”, in your heart and in every fibre of your being, a plan and an accompanying emotional desire so strong, straight and pure that it is guaranteed to become reality. That is the power you possess.
