Treatment
Beyond Cancer
- Shifting Our Thinking to Find a Cure
By Mauris L. EmekaThe malignant
tumour that we commonly call “cancer” is only the symptom of cancer. That is
to say, the tumour is merely the smoke while the fire of cancer burns at the
cellular level. What is needed is a paradigm shift in our thinking so that
we understand that cancer is much more than the physical tumour that so much
attention is currently directed toward.
To get at the root of any cancer we must direct our attention more to the
cellular and molecular side of life. Cancer is not a localized disease, nor
is it an infectious disease. The focus needs to be on the dysfunctional
process within the body that causes a malignant tumour to appear. When a
malignant tumour is found in an organ such as the colon, prostate, breast,
liver and pancreas, this only reveals part of the problem. Although cancer
shows up at the macro level as a tumour in an organ, the tumour is caused by
unhealthy activity at the micro level deep inside of the affected cells.
Healthy cells require lots of oxygen and enzymes, and an alkaline
environment -- all of which can be made possible through diet.
Every major scientific breakthrough or discovery is preceded by a
fundamental shift in how we think about the world around us. Cell phones,
CAT scans, lasers, and rocket ships, and all forms of telecommunications are
now possible because inventors were able to shift their thinking from the
macro level to the micro (or atomic) level. It’s now time we made a similar
shift in thinking when it comes to cancer, because the process that drives
this disease takes place at the cellular/atomic level. The question, then,
is how can we halt or disrupt the cancer process?
We are blessed to have a first and second line of defense against cancer.
The first line of defense is protein digesting enzymes produced by the
pancreas. These enzymes help destroy cancer cells by exposing them to our
immune system so they can be targeted for destruction. But our pancreas has
a limited capability to produce enzymes, and when it can no longer produce
adequate protein digesting enzymes that’s when the risk of cancer is
greatest. When we eat meat and dairy along with an abundance of cooked food,
and when we live with too much stress -- all of that causes an over-worked
pancreas to not be able to produce adequate protein digesting enzymes to
suppress cancer activity. Hence, our first line of defense is rendered
ineffective. On the other hand, an abundance of raw fresh fruits and
vegetables introduces vital enzymes and oxygen carrying capability, and they
make the body chemistry slightly alkaline. Papaya and papaya seeds,
pineapple, figs, deep green leafy vegetables are examples of foods that
greatly bolster the body’s enzyme store while normalizing its body chemistry
in ways that repel the activity of cancer and tumour growth.
Our second line of defense is a food factor called nitriloside (or amygdalin),
also called vitamin b-17. Without going into great detail, suffice it to say
that nitriloside creates a chemistry where healthy cells thrive and where
cancer cells cannot. That’s why it is said to be a strong second line of
defense against cancer. Unfortunately, our modern diet includes far too few
nitriloside-rich foods. Here are some examples of nitriloside-rich foods:
apricot kernels, sprouts, millet, blackberries, raspberries, currants,
walnuts, black-eye peas, lentil, lima beans, garlic, and turmeric and ginger
spices.
Here are some things that put the body at great risk for cancer and weaken
its defenses:
1) A weakened and compromised immune system -- this includes worry, lack of
rest and sunshine, and lack of regular exercise. In addition, drugs, and
various chemicals (to include chemotherapy and radiation) greatly suppress
the immune system.
2) Animal protein requires lots of protein digesting enzymes, more than the
pancreas can supply. In addition, animal protein makes body chemistry a lot
more acidic, and cells require an acidic environment. NOTE: Cooked food has
no enzymes and this causes the pancreas to have to work harder.
3) Refined sugars, refined grains, and all simple carbohydrates are a NO NO,
because these are the very foods on which cancer cells thrive. Further,
these foods have no enzymes, no oxygen carrying capability, and they make
body chemistry more acidic.
Dealing effectively with the process of cancer requires stressing the
basics: breathe healthy oxygen-rich air, get vitamin D from sunshine,
regular exercise, drink good water, and eat foods that are rich in enzymes
and easily-digested. Drugs, even those that are ‘clinically proven’, can
only treat tumour symptoms. Drugs may help to control tumour symptoms, but
they CANNOT put out the fire that causes them. The bottom line: we must
nourish the body and live a lifestyle that does not allow the process of
cancer to flourish. In that regard, the paradigm shift mentioned at the
beginning of this article involves changing one’s habits and consciousness.
For many people, this will not be easy; yet making that shift is entirely
possible for those seriously committed to health and wellness.
Finally, recent reports show that cancer has now surpassed heart disease as
the number cause of death! Unfortunately, this trend is likely to continue
as long as our main focus is only on treating the symptoms of this dreaded
disease.
