Naturopathic Medicine considers the physical,
emotional & spiritual aspects of your health. It is about prevention of
disease, but more importantly, it focuses on the promotion of health. “Naturopathic
medicine addresses the physical, biochemical, mental & energetic aspects of
our beings to increase performance, enhance quality of life & promote
longevity.” The goal of a Naturopathic Doctor is to support
the healing ability of the body to promote optimal health. We really listen
to our patient’s history and pay attention to subtle symptoms. Combined with
physical examination and the following specific lab tests, we have important
tools for effective health promotion.
In-Office Urine Analysis: Measurement of calcium, vitamin C, need for
anti-oxidants, bowel toxicity and adrenal function via urine components
provides a snapshot of nutrient absorption and waste excretion.
Hair Mineral Analysis: Nutrient minerals essential for tissue growth
and the production of energy are measured in hair. The patterns found can
also provide early indications of developing disease. Toxic metals like
aluminum and mercury have poisonous effects on body tissues, and can be a
hidden cause of health problems.
Body Composition Analysis: Loss of muscle rather than fat decreases
fat burning and defeats attempts to maintain optimum weight.
pH Testing of Saliva & Urine: Acid levels rise with increased
activity, stress and inadequate nutrition. pH testing ensures we stay in the
alkaline zone.
Glucose Breath Test: Exhaled carbon dioxide measures insulin
resistance which is a high risk indicator for development of diabetes.
Salivary Hormone Tests: Testing for female, male and adrenal
hormones.
These functional tests pinpoint developing problems. Trends can then be
reversed in the early stages before disease processes have occurred. Paying
attention to early warning signs can be the ticket to shifting your health
into high gear. About Dr. Jennifer
Bunzenmeyer
BSc, ND I recently opened my Naturopathic Practice with Dr. Patricia
J. Wales, ND at the Acadia Wellness Centre. I love my career as a
Naturopathic Doctor because Naturopathic Medicine offers a number of
therapies to assist my client’s in enhancing their treatment program. For
example, Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be a
stand-alone treatment or incorporated with other therapies. Combining the
TCM concepts of Qi energy flow with dietary suggestions, herbal and
nutritional supplements or homeopathic drainage remedies can provide a
powerful healing response.
Many conditions can respond to naturopathic care including women’s health
issues such as pre-menstrual syndrome, period irregularities, menopause and
infertility. Other conditions that benefit include Crohn’s, gallbladder and
liver problems, irritable bowel syndrome, stress related disorders, and
chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue
and arthritis. Common immune system conditions such as colds and flu,
allergies, asthma and eczema can be addressed.
By combining naturopathic therapies, we can work with you to support and
enhance your innate healing process and the synergizing connection with the
mind and body. I invite you to work together to set your health and
lifestyle goals, improve your energy levels, and decrease the effects of
stress in your life. |
