RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
How can I effectively use LinkedIn to grow
my business?
LinkedIn is the “Social Network” for business. It is where you connect with
business associates and clients, who can then link you to future clients. It
is not like Facebook or other social networks where you post pictures and
catch up on the latest news. LinkedIn is where business is done.
Most people I run into set up their profile, complete all the fields, add a
few connections, and then they do nothing. They do nothing as most people
don’t know what the next step is. There are a multitude of groups, events
and even a place to go to post or answer questions from other LinkedIn
users. Don’t forget the most important (my favourite) feature of LinkedIn,
and that’s the “recommendations” feature.
After you’ve set up your profile, the next place to go is under the “More”
tab, where you will find the “Learning Centre”. In here you will find all
sorts of tutorials and user guides to enable you to get the most out of
LinkedIn.
The area where questions and answers are featured enable you to become an
expert in your field. It is a great place to showcase your knowledge and
expertise. It is also a great place to get your questions answered. You can
ask any question from Social Media to insurance.
“Recommendations” are also easy to give and get on LinkedIn. It is just a
few clicks and a sentence, and you’re done. I even have a recommendations
linked directly from my website. I like to make things really easy for
people to recommend me, and you should too.
When you create or join a group, you have the ability to connect with
everyone in that group. You can also mass email everyone in that group. For
those of you who like to do email campaigns, this is a big plus for you.
You can create any kind of group on LinkedIn. Yes, a whole new group of
people who have expressed interest in your area of expertise joining your
group on a daily basis - what a great marketing tool.
There are too many tools and features of LinkedIn to mention. I encourage
you to join a few groups, connect with people, and ask for recommendations.
You will find more and more new uses for LinkedIn every day, so go ahead and
sign up. Your business won’t be the same. See you online!
