RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
Now that it’s
Spring, I want to wear more colour. How do I add colour to my existing
wardrobe?
Spring is all about coming out of the long, dark Winter and moving into the
bright, warm new season. We are transitioning from our hibernation and
feeling more extroverted and social. As a result, wearing a lot of black and
gray can feel too heavy and by adding colour and lighter neutrals, we create
a natural way to feel and appear more approachable and friendly.
Since the temperature is up and down, it is still appropriate to wear some
dark neutrals such as navy, gray and black. Incorporating colour and lighter
neutrals into our outfits will create a transitional look - which is what
Spring fashion is all about! To add colour to your existing wardrobe, start
by purchasing some new tank tops in lighter hues. To determine the best
colours for your skin tone, hold up a white and then an off-white tank to
your face in good lighting and see which color makes your skin look clear,
even and radiant. The one that is best will make lines less obvious and make
you appear rested and youthful.
This can be done with any colour. Compare coral pink and bubble gum pink,
green and blue, or orange-red with a primary red. The right colours will be
flattering and enhancing and will make your eyes stand out, hair shine, and
skin glow. The wrong colours for you will do the opposite: skin will look
sallow and blotchy, eyes dimmed, hair lackluster, and lines in the face will
be pronounced. The most fitting colours help you look and feel your best!
If you have been doing your homework, you have noticed that the magazines
and stores are packed with “the new neutrals”, “blush tones” or “nudes”.
Which nude tone you wear is crucial! The beige/tan/cream/straw tones are for
people who look good in orange-red, greens, browns, gold, and coral pink
because they are warm. The pink/gray/taupe blush tones are for people who
look best in gray, blues, pinks, silver and lavender because they are cool.
Avoid a monochromatic look with all light neutrals which can wash out the
face. Use the nude trench coat and blouse as a canvas to add colour to.
Balance the outfit with a brightly coloured scarf or necklace. A rich floral
or animal print blouse will also look great framed by a neutral blazer or
Spring jacket. Happy shopping!
