RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
After doing much
soul searching through popular self-help books, I have recently started
questioning whether my beliefs are right or wrong? How can I validate this?
Throughout our lives, we create beliefs from our experiences, family,
spiritual teachings and through things we learn at school and through the
media. So from all the things that you have heard, seen or experienced you
made a decision to buy into the experience or disengage.
When engaging or avoiding an experience, somewhere within us there is a past
experience that we seek validation for. Whether the experience is self
serving or drama, it means there is validation at some level. Each time we
validate the past, it strengthens the belief. The question then is: “Are
your beliefs serving you?”
Beliefs cannot necessarily be considered “wrong” but rather obsolete,
tainted or based on falsehoods. Beliefs are established to give us the
strength to move forward in decisions and to create our reality. So if a
childhood belief was created through the actions of others - let’s say one
of your parents left the family when you were young - your belief was
established that people leave and in order to create safety in your world
you vowed you would never let anyone hurt you like that again. Your actions
then create safety so that you would never re-experience the pain. Within
each experience, your belief gets stronger thus validating your reality.
So, is the experience created out of that belief serving you? Are you
getting what you want? If the answer is NO, then looking at your beliefs
that got you to where you are and changing them is the only way to create a
new reality.
Change for most people is hard. With change comes work. Letting go of the
way you think and addressing the “whys” is a huge part of self discovery. If
your change is a healthy one, and you are getting what you want, the people
around us either support the change or step back. We attract people that
support our beliefs and when we change a belief the people around us go into
their own fear, perhaps having to reevaluate their own choices or experience
and will sometime try to sabotage the change process.
So why change a belief? Mainly to create a healthy and balanced life you
deserve and want, whether it is beliefs about relationship, health, self
esteem or around abundance. Change is doable.
