RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
I’ve heard of people
using herbals and hormones by applying them to the skin. Why would you
choose this approach over taking something in capsule form?
In response to this question, my answer is limited to “natural” ingredients
only. Natural herbal balms that are applied to the skin for absorption are
also called “penetrating dermal infusions”. The key word here is
“penetrating”. The skin is the body’s largest organ, and what we apply to
the skin is taken into the body so the ingredients matter.
Dating back 5000 years, a proven method for transporting healing compounds
directly into the bloodstream was “transdermally” (through the skin). It is
optimal to select dermal infusions that are organic and ethically
wildcrafted to ensure the highest quality and purity. The ideal delivery
system of a penetrating dermal infusion incorporates a steam distillation
process that allows herbs to synergize for up to a week, resulting in super
penetrating and bio-availability. This promotes rapid and complete
absorption of healing herbs into the body without the necessity of rough
transit through the digestive tract and liver (liver transit can ultimately
reduce the bio-availability of the active ingredients by 80-90 percent).
Pills and capsules must all include liver and gastric transit.
Naturopathic Doctors and Master Herbalists have created dermal formulations
in response to many diverse health conditions encountered in patients, many
of whom are unable to properly assimilate herbal remedies recommended in
oral form. There are many applications for herbal dermal infusions. These
include, but certainly are not limited to:
- Pain relief for headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, swollen
joints, burns, toothaches, backaches and even hangovers;
- Weight loss and stabilizing blood sugar levels;
- Relieving constipation and relieving gas;
- Easing conditions associated with aging including prostate
support, balancing depleted hormones, relief for moodiness and cramping,
enhancing energy and sensuality;
- Boosting energy and activating a sluggish immune system and
energizing adrenal, thyroid and endocrine functions and helping to relieve
fatigue;
- “Quieting” herbs can alleviate stress, nervousness,
anxiety, trauma, and promote relaxation and sleep;
- Herbal balms assist in pulling impurities from the skin
making them effective on acne, bruises, rashes, insect bites and stings.
They can assist in healing psoriasis and eczema.
Many people experience results within an hour of application depending on
what they are using the application for.
