RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
Some days I wake up and I
wonder what I’m doing; I struggle to focus on doing what I need to do to
keep moving forward. How can I learn to consistently get out of my own way?
The little voice in our heads is designed to hold us back from stepping into
our power. It fills our minds with doubts, worries and excuses that enable
us to justify “playing small”. Some days we feel completely overwhelmed with
the plethora of “things” that are going on around us. Between managing our
social media, keeping our web content current, advertising decisions,
networking events, prospecting and relationship management and chasing every
new opportunity, we haven’t even touched the core business management
activities such as payables and receivables, product or service development,
etc.
Alternatively, you may find that you feel unclear about how you’re going to
spend your day, what tasks you should focus on, or what your priorities
should be. Particularly for entrepreneurs, it is deceptively easy to spend
an entire day updating your Facebook and Twitter and not accomplishing much
else!
These behaviors are often less about whether or not you know tactically what
you need to do to move your business forward, and more about sub-consciously
fighting that little voice who wants to keep you exactly where you are
“playing small”. At first blush you might believe that it is the fear of
failure or success that keeps you fighting this invisible war with yourself.
If you’re finding yourself overwhelmed, it may be an indicator that you have
created chaos in your business as a form of avoidance. If you’re having
difficulty getting focused, you are likely avoiding doing the very tasks you
know you need to get done in order to be successful.
If we look below the surface however, we often find that the underlying fear
is “Am I Enough?” We’re afraid to put ourselves out there and be found
somehow lacking. Isn’t it better to hide behind our Facebook than to come
face to face with the truth that we might not be good enough?
If this is hitting a little close to home, then you need to decide who is
going to win that war - you, or your little voice. If you’re struggling to
find that laser focus and blow past whatever fears are keeping you hiding
behind your computer all day long, simply decide that you’re bigger than
that little voice and “Just Do It!” There’s a reason Nike has maintained
that slogan for more than 20 years! It’s time to step up. The world is
waiting for you!
