RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
I find Calgary women
business owners not very supportive of other women in business. Does anyone
else feel the same?
Women entrepreneurs are significant contributors in today’s marketplace.
Research shows approximately 40% of businesses today are owned or run by
women, so good question! When it comes to supporting fellow women in
business, why do we fall down? The answer to that question is not simple!
Some women feel threatened by other women while some feel it’s best just to
go at it alone, and others feel they have a point to prove to everyone and
unfortunately these women are not open to supporting anyone...sad but so
true.
In business, there are many ways we, as women, can help each other. It can
be through building strategic alliances, mentoring, coaching or providing
advice. When it comes to running your own business you are not given a job
description or on the job training - you are the one who creates the
workload and training, and it needs to change as your business changes. So
how do you find the best possible solution to your problem?
Having a network of women business owners with similar or complementary
businesses can be invaluable. These women have been there, done that and
succeeded. They are a great tool and what’s more is that it’s free! In fact,
just the other day I made a strategic alliance with a new company that
provides a specialized business solution which complements my business. This
was a “smart business decision” for me as it allows me to provide my clients
with a more specialized service while at the same time I am helping this new
business establish itself.
I am not saying that we have to support all women in business, but rather I
am suggesting that perhaps we start taking notice of other like women and
establish a strong network. If I am to be honest -- and I am saying this to
all business women -- I think it is time we stop focusing on just ourselves
and start helping other women who would really appreciate our guidance,
advice and time. Yes, we are all busy with most of us having a full time
business, family and other commitments, but if we can work together and
support one another, who knows, maybe just maybe, we can streamline our
business practices, work smarter, not harder and provide a more superior,
effective and efficient solution for our customers. After all, to stay in
business, we have to keep our customers happy, and wanting more! Let’s start
thinking like SMART BUSINESS WOMEN!
