RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
Why do I always feel like I am not pushing myself hard enough to get my
dreams to be a reality?
Dreams sometimes
feel like they are miles away amidst the crazy thoughts of the future. Day
by day time seems to pass by and if we don’t seem to be drawing closer to
obtaining those dreams it leaves us with the bitter taste of disappointment.
The realization of time flying by seems to cause frustration and insecurity.
The first thing that is needed to obtain your dream and push past any of
these feelings is to realize that it may not happen overnight. More
commonly, it probably will be one small step at a time. Start small and set
goals that you can see as achievable. This will help you work towards that
big picture and will actually make you feel like you are accomplishing
something. Remember, small goals accomplished are what the big dreams are
made of.
Secondly, you need a plan and a check list. Small steps are great but they
need to take you to a thought out destination. Writing down everything that
you want to accomplish and the objective you ultimately want to obtain will
keep you focused and is also proof of what the goal was initially instead of
justifying any other direction you may head. Every step you accomplish and
are able to check off will give you the confidence in yourself to follow
through to the next level.
Finally, I also find that it is beneficial to be around positive,
encouraging friends or family who truly want the best for you and will be
brutally honest about your path to attain your goal. For me, I always have
had this great big picture of the future that seemed so bright and promising
but just sitting there and not acting on what I wanted did absolutely
nothing. One of my girlfriends spoke up and in plain words “put my butt in
gear”. I realized that I was sitting there waiting for my big break but not
putting any effort into starting the adventure myself.
If you feel like you don’t know where to start and you can’t even envision
doing the little steps you need to take to get to the next level, there will
always be someone who will point you in the right direction (friends, career
counselors, family, etc.)
Believing in yourself is the inspiration and the first step you need to
aspire to be whatever you dream to be.
