RISING WOMEN EXPERTS...

I am feeling stuck in my career and would like to find a career that will provide me with meaning and passion. Where do I start?

It is never too late to start a new career!

Before making a move, it is important to ask yourself a series of questions:

1) Take an inventory of your strengths and skills. Look at all of the roles that you have played in your life (i.e.) employee, caregiver, community worker, volunteer, and consider any hobbies or other interests. What resources and tools do you currently have that will aid in your ability to achieve your goals?

2) What activities in your life do you look forward to the most? These can be things you enjoy most about your current job, things that you look forward to doing after work, with your family, with your friends on the weekend or in your spare time. What types of books do you like to read? What hobbies do you enjoy? Identifying these activities can help lead you towards finding something for which you have a passion and a possibly lead to a new career.

3) Take an inventory of your weaknesses and any roadblocks that may hamper a successful transition. When determining potential obstacles to your success, take into account all aspects of your life that may be holding you back (i.e.) financial situation, physical, emotional, spiritual and professional constraints. Include thoughts around what has prevented you from achieving this goal in the past. Consider what additional resources, skills and tools that you need to develop to help you achieve this transition.

4) What are the steps you will take to remove your roadblocks? Consider any negative habits, beliefs and conditions in your life that you want or need to change or remove. Also identify the positive habits, beliefs and conditions in your life that currently exist that will help you to move forward.

5) Develop a specific action plan. Your action plan should include specific action steps with completion dates.

6) Visualize your ultimate goal. Take yourself to a place where you are living your dream and ask yourself: What does it look like? How does it feel? What will you hear from your own self-talk and from others?

Live your dreams! It is a possibility!
