Can you make any suggestions on how to get rid of varicose veins &
how to prevent them from coming back?
Varicose veins, found on the legs, are bulging, lumpy blue veins
that can be caused by many factors. Excessive weight, heavy lifting or
impact from standing or walking on hard surfaces are the most common causes.
Other causes include taking certain prescription pills such as birth control
and hormone replacement therapy. Liver disease, abdominal tumours and
chronic constipation are also factors.
When veins are impacted, whether pharmaceutically or through environmental
factors or deficiencies, they become dysfunctional resulting in improper
circulation and pooling blood in the veins. This extra fluid causes the
veins to turn blue and bulge.
Aside from being unsightly, having varicose veins can be painful and
debilitating. Legs can feel heavy, tight or restless. Other symptoms include
aches and pains, swelling and leg cramps. When the veins are small and
closer to the skin are not considered harmful, however if the veins are
located deeper within the leg, blood clots or internal bleeding can occur.
The best procedures for removing larger varicose veins is through
Sclerotherapy and specialized surgery. For prevention and to effectively
eliminate smaller veins, known as spider veins, supplementation can be
highly effective. For instance, Bromelain is an excellent supplement for
it’s anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that bromelain
prevents the hard, lumpy skin found around bulging veins.
Grapeseed extract is a powerful antioxidant that improves the overall health
of capillaries and veins. Another effective antioxidant is Horse Chestnut
Seed Extract. This product also stops enzymes that destroy vein walls.
Essential fatty acids (EFA’s), found in hemp or fish oils, is an excellent
source of omega 3, 6 and 9’s. EFA’s are simply a must in any diet.
To alleviate some of the pain and discomfort, supportive elastic stockings
are available. Hydrotheraphy is also said to be very soothing. A home
alternative to this is to spray cold water on your legs for about 20
seconds. Natural ointments that reduce swelling are also must. Applied
topically, ointments such as Witch Hazel, can be heavenly.
