Do you have creative ideas to help me market my new business?
Marketing is an on-going process for any size business. Following are a few
tips to get you the exposure you need.
1) Create a Press Release - A well-written press release is a
excellent way to gain public awareness. If packed with attention grabbing,
truthful and newsworthy content you can benefit from some “free
advertising”. Your press release can be submitted to newspapers, magazines,
radio, television and trade publications, both online and off. There are
many websites available that can help you to structure your press release
professionally, just google!
2) Sponsor an Event - Source out a few events that correspond
with the type of business you have and offer to help promote it in exchange
for business visibility during the event. As a sponsor, typically you will
get your logo printed on all the events promo material and ideally get your
promo material into the hands of everyone who attends the event. When Rising
Women sponsors an event, we request that a copy of the magazine is made
available to all attendees. In exchange, we offer print advertising
announcing the event, banner advertising on our website and announcement
through all our internal mail, e-newsletters, etc. What is your sponsor
package?
3) Create a Newsletter - Newsletters are a fantastic way to
keep your business “top-of-mind” in your customers eyes. Mail or email at
least monthly an informative piece that offers educational content, expert
advice and announcement of your new products and services, events, sales,
etc. With that said, be sure to create a database with the contact
information from each and every customer that visits your business. While
networking, ask those you meet if they would be interested in getting your
newsletter too. Remember the Privacy Act, don’t just add email addresses to
your list without consent!
4) Advertising Exchange - Building alliances with similar
businesses is a powerful win-win scenario. If you were to create a
relationship, for example, where you offered an incentive, such as a
percentage off products/services to all the customers of the other business,
and they did the same, both your companies are guaranteed to increase your
customer base. Sit down with the other business and spend the time to create
a program that honours the needs of both your businesses. Plan to evaluate
the program regularly to keep it updated and fair.
