RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
I have self-esteem issues which affect my
job performance and personal life, how can I help this?
Low self-esteem can have many causes depending on the background of a
person, their surroundings, age, association with the outside world, etc. To
be able to successfully deal with these problems, one has to first determine
the causes of lowered self-esteem. The best way to deal with any problem is
to look at the mistakes from the past. Excessive criticism, not being able
to live up to someone else’s expectations, harsh self-judgment, feeling
neglected, failure to complete goals, negative experiences, childhood abuse
or continued unemployment are some of the common contributing factors. Low
self-esteem can manifest as a lack of social skills, fear of
responsibilities, difficulty making independent decisions or forming
opinions, difficulty accepting compliments, holding grudges, depression,
anger, pessimistic outlook or negative thinking.
Keeping a journal is a good way to get in touch with your own patterns,
causes and feelings. List which contributing factors seem most appropriate,
then list how the symptoms impact your life negatively. When you have
determined these two things, you will be better armed to seek the most
effective approach or modality to helping yourself.
Regardless of the causes or symptoms, there are some important habits you
can develop to help yourself such as: avoiding negative situations, keeping
positive people around you, using your journal to record positive
experiences, focus on positive thinking, avoid comparing yourself to others,
keep a list of all of your positive qualities and deeds, do what you love,
let go of unsupportive people and don’t dwell on how you could have done
something better.
One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to determine
what you need in life. We all have to have our basic needs met in order to
feel fulfilled. Some basic needs are; having a purpose, creativity, safety,
security, sense of control, recognition, intimacy and connection to
something greater than yourself. Identifying these honestly will help you to
have a game plan and help you to feel in control.
There are a number of excellent therapies that can help you to make
significant strides to improving your self-esteem. Hypnosis can get to the
root of subconscious patterns and habits and help facilitate positive
change. EFT is a wonderful tool to shift emotions energetically. Psych-K can
help you to turn your beliefs around and improve your self-perception. And
lastly, BodyTalk can address all levels of the body/mind complex and
reconnect energetic links.
