RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
House cleaning!! Private Cleaners or Maid Services... how does one
chose?
Let’s face it, everyone is busy; busy trying to find time and space to enjoy
a few of the finer things in life before they get up and run again tomorrow.
Along with all of our busy schedules we are desperately trying to find time
for ourselves and our families.
In recent years, the Calgary market has seen homeowners move up to an
average 2000 square foot home. Everyone is asking: “How do I keep up with
the housework the way I like it and still find time for other priorities in
life?” The option of having a cleaner to take care of this problem has
become for many people, a necessity.
The decision of whether to hire a private cleaner or cleaning service offers
many challenges. This article will make you better aware of the options
available to you and the differences you may encounter.
Private Cleaners - Most private cleaners charge fees of $30.00
to $35.00 per hour. Aside from the lower fee, the main benefit of a private
cleaner is that the same person cleaning all the time results in a more
personal service.
Cleaning Service/Maid Service - Most services charge fees of
$40.00 to $50.00 per hour. Services generally offer more flexibility in
scheduling and payment processing. One of the biggest benefits of a company
is their ability to be in and out in a short period of time as there is
usually two or more staff cleaning.
In your search for a cleaner make sure they are insured, bonded and WCB
covered. Breakage and damage are not covered if there is no insurance, and
an injury in your home without WCB makes the homeowner liable. Private
cleaners for the most part operate under the table on a cash basis, thereby
not reporting to CCRA. One of the more frustrating issues is finding a
cleaner that will commit to a schedule and always be there on their booked
day. Not showing up to clean is a common issue within the industry.
Private cleaners and cleaning companies can range from very average to
excellent. Ask lots of questions to determine if they are a match for you.
What are their standards and are they flexible to your needs (remember,
everyone has a different definition of clean)? Do your homework. These
people become big parts of your life; you will see them more than your hair
dresser. Get references, search for good reputations and you will find
someone suited to your needs.
