Help! I am divorced and not sure where to go to meet single people!?
First of all, don’t panic. There are many, many singles out there looking
for someone just like you. Although it may sometimes seem as if there is a
scarcity of “good” men/women; there isn’t.
Secondly, don’t think of this as a singular quest to find your perfect
match; rather think of this as a journey of self discovery and learning new
skills. Focus on expanding your social network of both men and women.
Lastly, all you have to do is get out there and you may be pleasantly
surprised. You may feel awkward and vulnerable at first but that will pass
as your confidence increases.
OK, so you’re ready to take the plunge. Look on the internet for groups that
share your interests and passions. Find out when they meet and what age the
participants are; ask if there are singles that attend the activities. There
are cooking classes, dance lessons (ballroom, Latin, contemporary) and
hiking and sport clubs. Running groups are a fun way to meet people and get
fit too. There are also book clubs, bridge clubs, chess clubs, and every
other club imaginable. Check the internet and read the local magazines and
newspapers to find your ideal club.
Don’t forget your existing circle. Do your married friends and family know
you’re looking? You might have to actually come out and ask them if they
know any single people who fit with what you want. Don’t be embarrassed,
people love to match make! Be sure to give them enough details so that they
can actually be helpful.
Once you’ve filled your social calendar with interesting and fun activities
and let everyone know you’re looking, you might want to consider online
dating. The stigma of online dating has really diminished over the past few
years. It is becoming the norm rather that the exception. There are many
sites; just goggle “singles Calgary”, but be prepared to spend lots of time
on your computer reading endless profiles while trying to find Mr/Ms Right
with only a few words to go by.
And finally there are matchmaking companies who add the personal touch to
matchmaking. These services qualify matches through an interview process.
Very effective.

not be the party you wished for but while you’re here you might as well
