Choosing the right type of lipstick has always been a mystery to me.
What can you do make my lips say “kiss me”?
By RWM Experts
Your “mystery” is a common one amongst us gals, however mystery no more...
The most common mistake in lipstick expertise is varying your lipstick to
match your wardrobe. A huge “no-no” since your lipstick is supposed to
complement your skin tone! So, when choosing your colour, half your
confusion can be alleviated if you know whether you skin tone is “warm” or
“cool”? Skin tones are determined by the undertone of your skin, not by your
hair colour (for most that’s a whole new mystery) or eye colour, or whether
you are dark or light. If you have a bluish tone, you are “cool”. If you
have a yellowish tone, you are “warm”; it’s that simple.
For “warm” tones, choose a lipstick that is: coral, peach, rust, amber,
brown, brick red, melon, salmon, orange, sandalwood, red with yellow
undertone, or taupe. For “cool” tones, choose a lipstick that is: pink,
raspberry, cherry, mulberry, lavender, plum, rose, strawberry, amethyst,
lilac, red with blue undertone or mauve.
Now on to the mystery of the lip liner. Yes, wear lip liner, they add clean
definition while subtly redefining your mouth! The proper way to apply liner
is to do so before putting on lip colour. To add fullness, draw just outside
your natural lip line; to thin lips slightly, draw just on the inside. To
achieve a luscious pout, add fullness to the bottom lip with a lip pencil
two shades lighter than the one you use on your upper lip.
So what about lip gloss, you ask? Glosses are a whole other mystery as they
are not only perfect for adding shine, they can enhance your mood. Yes,
truly! If you choose a natural or even organic variety with essential oils
as a main ingredient, the essential oils natural scents are like a mini
aromatherapy treatment. Vanilla and peppermint increase happy feelings;
grapefruit and tangerine boost energy; rose and lavender calm and sooth
stressed nerves.
When choosing your lip gloss, remember to consider your skin tones to
enhance that natural look. If you are combining with lipstick, choose
colours one shade lighter than your lipstick for an extra definition.
So to review, choose your lipstick first, then choose lip pencils one shade
darker or lighter depending on the look you’re going for, and finish by
picking lip glosses one shade lighter. Make sure all are from the same
colour family that match your skin tone.
