The
Power Of Numbers - Providing You With a Greater
Connection in Life
By Viki Jane MacKinnon of MPowerment/Got Your Number
Although we live in a world of numbers, and a society that constantly
seeks to measure and quantify, relatively few people are aware of the true
meaning of numbers. The numbers we see all around us, and use every day to
denote quantity or identity, as in our driver’s license, credit card, etc.,
are actually visual representations. They are straight or curved lines that
represent great spiritual principles and cosmic forces in our lives. The
numbers, or more correctly, numerals, with curved lines represent feminine
and occult energy, while the numerals with straight lines are considered to
be masculine and aspiring. As centers of enormous power, numbers operate on
the highest spiritual plane.
Numerology is the study of the spiritual and archetypal symbolism of
numbers. It has its roots in ancient teachings, and was made known to
Western culture by the Greek philosopher, Pythagoras. Like astrology,
numerology sheds light on your journey through life. The profound cosmic
truths encoded in your name and birth date provide valuable clarity and
guidance regarding your destiny, karma, relationships, career path, peaks
and challenges. Also, like astrology, numerology deals with probabilities
and potential, not absolutes.
Every letter in your name has a numerical equivalent, and just like your
birth date, these numbers can be combined in different ways to indicate
energetic patterns and influences in your life. To arrive at calculations,
numerologists keep adding each digit until they have either a one digit
number, or a master number. Each number from 1 to 9, and also the master
numbers 11, 22, and 33, represent a continuum of vibrations, tendencies and
predispositions that play out in your personal and professional life, and
relationships. Your name tends to have more to do with personal attributes,
and your date tends to indicate types of experiences and probable timing.
Quite often when I mention my work with numerology, people will say
something like “I’m an eight!” I then ask whether that is based on their
name or their birth date. The truth is that we all have several numbers
around us in varying degrees. In fact, many of us have all the numbers from
one to nine present in our personal chart. No one is simply “an eight” or
any other number, although there are certainly many people for whom the
energy of one or two numbers tends to dominate.
The most fascinating part of numerology is the way the numbers support,
enhance, or play off each other, and the enormous variety of combinations
that are possible. Sometimes I notice potential for internal conflict. For
example, a person might have a 5 soul urge which cries out for freedom and
variety, yet a 6 destiny or total expression indicates that they will likely
have a great deal of responsibility toward others, while a 4 in those
positions would indicate a life spent working within established routines,
structures, or systems.
Other times I am struck by the fluidity of the progression of numbers within
a chart. For example, if someone was born on March 6, 1980, their three
major cycles will take them from the 3 (creativity, self expression and
sociability) to the 6 (balance, artistic harmony and nurturing), to the 9
(artistic sensitivity and great compassion). It’s also common to see numbers
positioned in such a way that instead of potential conflict, the vibrations
bring balance to each other. For example, a highly introspective and
spiritual person with a strong 7 influence may have just the right
sprinkling of 3’s to help them stay connected with others, or a well-placed
8 to keep them grounded in practicalities. Numerology makes one appreciate
the uniqueness of each individual and each journey.
Even more fascinating is the way in which name qualities or birth date
calculations compare, contrast and support each other within families or
close friendships. For example, someone with a 6 karma may have chosen a
mother and/or father with a 6 total expression or someone with an 8 soul
urge may be married to a partner whose destiny is 8. People are often drawn
to friendships or relationships with individuals whose outward aspects match
their soul urge.
There is a wealth of amazingly accurate information in an individual
numerology chart, but in my opinion, the most important aspects are: one’s
total expression, also called purpose or life path, and determined by the
total name at birth; soul urge, determined by the vowels from the name at
birth; and destiny, determined by the date of birth. Also important are
one’s persona or outward impression, determined by the consonants, and karma
as indicated by missing vibrations. Relationships have a good chance of
being successful when some of these important aspects either match or
compliment each other.
Many people think numerology is about changing names. It’s wise to consult a
numerologist when considering a change of name, or when naming a business;
however, there are many more benefits to becoming familiar with your
personal numbers. For those of us who are passionate about spiritual growth,
a personal numerology chart helps us integrate different attributes and
aspects of our life’s journey into a meaningful whole. It also reveals the
vibrations of our present month and year, and the themes that we will
experience at this time, as well as opportunities that are likely to arise
in the future. Awareness of our numbers heightens our self-esteem, validates
our journey, strengthens our sense of purpose, facilitates deeper
understanding of our lessons, and provides a greater connection to our
Higher Self. With so much information and guidance available in our name and
birth date, we need never feel uncertain about the direction our life is
taking or how to make the most of our potential.
