My life is full of responsibilities and I am constantly on the go.
Without energy I can’t keep up with my daily routine. What can I do?
With a busy lifestyle it is important to nurture yourself throughout the
day. The human body will keep pushing forward if you keep pushing - but like
a car, if you don’t service it, it will eventually break down. So how do we
“service” our body? Following are some tips to get you back on the road:
Eat a healthy, balanced diet, including complex carbohydrates (brown rice,
quinoa, kamut, spelt), protein (fish, chicken, raw nuts/seeds, tempeh) and
essential fatty acids (olive oil, raw nuts, flax oil), with every meal and
snack will help to balance your blood sugar levels and energy. Refined foods
(i.e. candy, cookies, or muffins) cause a spike in blood sugar followed by
low blood sugar, leaving you tired and craving more stimulants like sugar or
caffeine. Instead of that mid-afternoon cookie or candy, reach for some raw
nuts and seeds, red pepper and a bean dip, or a piece of fruit and some
yogurt.
Support the Adrenal Glands. The adrenals glands help you adapt to stress. If
they get exhausted through excess stress and a busy lifestyle, you get
tired. Setting consistency in your daily routine including eating, sleeping
and working at regular times will help your body get into a rhythm and
support the adrenals. B-vitamins help support your body when you are
stressed and tired. Vitamin B6 is a cofactor in serotonin production, your
“feel good” neurotransmitter. B5 helps make energy in your body and
nourishes the adrenal glands to help your body adapt and deal with stress
and fatigue. B-vitamins can be found in whole grains, turkey, brewer’s
yeast, peas, fish, almonds and sunflower seeds.
Incorporate mini-breathing exercises into your daily routine. Take a deep
breath into your abdomen, relaxing your shoulders and exhaling any tension
in your body. Doing 5-6 deep breaths to bring oxygen deep into your muscles
and brain will leave you more relaxed and alert.
Allow more “rest” time between tasks by prioritizing your daily routine.
Setting boundaries on the amount of things you do in a day will help you
gather your thoughts, rest and replenish before moving on to other
responsibilities.
If you feel you are on a treadmill all day, ongoing support and nurturing is
needed to help replenish your mind and body and aid moving on to the next
task at hand.
