Kerby Centre is a “Place for Everyone 60-Plus.” Visit the Kerby Centre
for complete information about seniors’ issues & a broad range of physical,
social & intellectual activities.
Kerby Centre is a
multi-purpose social service, recreational and educational facility operated
by, and for, Calgarians 60 years of age and over. Here they can come
together to fulfill many of their social, physical and intellectual needs;
expand their interests, tap their potential and develop new interests.
Kerby Centre offers a unique opportunity for
senior adults to create a very special community of their own without
isolating themselves from the community at large. Seniors not only avail
themselves of vital services and participate in a non-competitive
atmosphere, they also provide the very services consumed by their fellows.
The newest department at Kerby is the Centre of Excellence and
Network in Applied Gerontology where research is carried out by seniors on
critical issues related to aging.
Kerby Rotary House was the first
purpose-built shelter for abused senior men and women in North America. This
facility provides a safe haven for persons escaping from abusive situations
and offers counseling and assistance to re-enter the community in a safe
setting. The 24-hour crisis line can be reached at (403) 705-3250.
Kerby Centre also provides a resource facility
for all senior citizen groups in Calgary. It’s volunteers
and paid staff provide community consultation, assistance in planning and
organizing, volunteer leadership, training and data collection and
processing.
The Centre is open five days weekly from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30
P.M. It is located near bus lines and the LRT at 1133 7th Avenue SW. |
