RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
Can we shift emotional patterns through music and movement? Do we repeat the
same movement (or pattern) over and over again?
Let’s find out! In the privacy of your home, choose music that is rich with
instrumental layers and choices (the music becomes the “bridge” that leads
to yourself and helps to offer new ways to move, feel and explore). Begin to
move with the music. Invite the music to “move you” and choose a layer to
connect with in your “YOUnique” way.
Are you feeling shy or uncomfortable to move your body in the presence of
yourself? What are your emotional reactions and thought patterns? Continue
for at least 10 to 20 minutes by slowly, “letting go” as you take the time
to observe reactions and sensations.
Now play the same music again, but this time begin to notice “how” you are
moving. Are you swaying back and forth and repeating this over and over
again? What are your feet doing? Explore planting your feet on the floor and
now move your body in new ways. What’s happening? What is the core of your
body doing? Is it feeling stiff or stuck?
The core of the body is where we hold most of our emotional energy, and many
of our patterns are held there. For instance, in my personal exploration, I
noticed my ribs were stuck. This reflected how my heart and lungs didn’t
know how to truly feel joy and were blocked with “genuinely fake” masks of
joy. In my early days, I would numb my lungs with smoking (in Chinese
medicine the lungs represent the polarity of sadness to joy). As I began to
move with music that created strong feelings and opened my heart and rib
cage with deep breaths and undulations, I felt the music more intimately. At
first I felt uncomfortable and released a lot of “crying” with my reaction
to the harmonies in the music. As I moved with the music over and over
again, soon I didn’t need to cry anymore. All that was left after releasing
my sadness, was joy. I actually shifted my sadness to joy through music and
movement.
Now, I am able to shift my emotional reactions and patterns in daily
situations (which correlates with the music) immediately! I don’t blame the
music (or daily dramas) for my reaction. I turn the camera within and shift
to feeling good.
