RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
I’ve started a business
and have all the company essentials in order. Now I need to market my
product/service. How do I create a company brochure?
Essentially a brochure is a “tool” to help promote your product/service. It
can be flashy looking with minimal content or simple looking with minimal
visuals and heavy content. Truthfully, it depends on the type of brochure
you are trying to create for your business. There are 5 key points in
creating an effective brochure:
1) Consider the functionality of the brochure. This essentially means the
“type” of brochure do you want to create: Generic brochure (basic
information on your product/service), Point of Sale brochure (Flashy
Teasers, as we like to call them), Direct Mail (Call to Action), Requested
brochure (brochure designed for a specific product you sell but does not
list every item you carry), or a Sales Support brochure (used after you’ve
pitched a sale).
2) Is your brochure tied in with an advertising campaign or does it stand
alone?
3) Know your audience. Who are you marketing to?
4) Organize your selling points. Your brochure should read like a short
story including an intro, body and conclusion.
5) Create accurate and detailed information. Make sure you include clear,
concise and accurate information in your brochure. It doesn’t have to be
dull and mind-numbing, rather it should trigger emotion and questions as to
why the consumer or business-to-business client would want your
product/service. “What’s in it for me?” should be the question the reader
will ask themselves. Don’t forget to add contact information including
email, website, phone numbers and address. A map or landmark explaining
where your business is located is very helpful too.
A successful brochure must sell YOU, and by that I mean your product or
service. This is where you should shine! Included with the above key points,
creativity, design and color choice are all very important elements when
designing a brochure. You have to make a first impression on your client and
what better way to do that than with color and creativity! Most importantly
have fun when creating your brochure. Advertising and marketing your
business is the “fun bits” of the job and quite honestly, are the most
rewarding!
