Can acupuncture help
neuron diseases?
The human body is a complex but united organism. To adapt various change,
there are three main adjusting systems that play the role: the nervous
system, the body fluid system and the self-adjusting system. The nervous
system is the most important one.
Neurons send signals to other cells through electrochemical waves traveling
along thin fibers which cause chemicals to be released at junctions. A cell
that receives a synaptic signal may be excited, inhibited, or otherwise
modulated. When the nervous system is disordered, patients can have commonly
known motor and sensory nerve system diseases such as a stroke or functional
problems such as insomnia, ADD, IBM, menstrual disorders, etc. Diseases with
neuron system disorders normally are more stubborn and chronic. Medication
can control the symptoms but not easily regulate the neuron system, so that
is why it is hard to treat a neurological disease with medication alone.
Acupuncture is believed as very effective method to treat lots of diseases.
People often can feel the “de qi” sensation, which encourages fast results
for pain relief and proves acupuncture mostly stimulates the neuron system
to adjust this complex organism. Lots of research shows acupuncture can help
to eliminate edema and inflammation, improve local microcirculation and
increase the cell oxygen utilization rate to rehabilitate the peripheral
nerve. Other research shows that acupuncture can stop or slow the cell’s
denaturalization after they lose control by the peripheral nerve. Although
this mechanism is complicated, we can easily see changes. Acupuncture can
relieve various types of pain in a few minutes, treat Bell’s palsy,
peripheral nerve inflammation, MG, etc. It can also promote the regeneration
of the neuron axon making it ideal for treating ALS, MS, poliomyelitis and
myelosyringosis as well
Acupuncture can regulate the balance, agility and intensity of a conditioned
reflex. It can also regulate the chronaxie and bio-electricity in cerebral
cortex. For example, needle LI4 can stimulate a wave to restrict the brain.
So acupuncture can also be used to treat ADD, epilepsy and functional
disorders in the neuron system especially if the pituitary axis is involved.
Among all diseases, neuron system disease is most difficult to diagnose,
treat and recover. Even now the mechanism is still in vague, but acupuncture
can help a lot.
