RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
How can I take
advantage of a little extra time in the summer for personal renewal and
replenishing?
Confused? Cluttered? Exhausted? On edge? That described me at a point when
nothing was working, efforts were failing, and time was accelerating. There
was too much on my plate, not enough in my tank, and my calendar had no
margin. My personal coach suggested I take a “Personal Retreat” to rest,
renew and re-focus, and so I did.
Personal Retreats have been part of personal growth for years. From early
monks to priests, to spiritual shamans to nuns, Personal Retreats have been
practiced by people of every spiritual orientation. They have been
celebrated because they rest our bodies and recharge our batteries. Life can
be hard on the body, with constant demand to work harder and produce. Lin
Yutang said: “Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is a
nobler art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the
elimination of nonessentials.”
Personal Retreats Enlighten the Mind - When we pause and are still, our mind
is enlightened. Answers and solutions present themselves. The complex
becomes simple. Captain J.A. Hadfield said: “This art of resting the mind
and the power of dismissing from it all care and worry is probably one of
the secrets of energy in our great men.”
Personal Retreats Nourish the Soul - Our soul, like a tender plant, needs to
be continually nourished. The power of a nourished soul is that we have the
motivation, strength, and capacity to nourish and feed others. Again,
Captain J.A. Hadfield speaks: “Acquire inner peace and a multitude will find
their salvation near you.”
Personal Retreats Heal the Wounds - Life hurts at times, and so we need time
to heal. Perhaps society has so much dysfunction precisely because we don’t
take time to heal.
Personal Retreats Clarify the Vision - Sometimes our vision and dream
becomes clouded. Personal Retreats are an opportunity to withdraw from the
hustle and bustle of daily life, so that things can again become clear.
Ovid (43 B.C. to 17 A.D.) said: “Take rest; a field that has rested gives a
bountiful crop.” We were born to yield a bountiful crop! This bountiful crop
comes as we take time to rest and renew, and taking time for Personal
Retreats is a crucial part of rest and renewal! Happy Retreating!
