RISING WOMEN EXPERT ADVICE...
I am getting married in three weeks and would like to safely slim up
as much as possible! Help!
I am glad you said “safely” because there are a lot of weight loss gimmicks
that discourage health and ones sense of well being. We want you to feel
fabulous as well as slimmer for your big day! We also want to keep your mood
and energy balanced while you lose inches during your wedding preparation
time!
The abdomen is a common problem area for women. It often bulges out not only
due to fat, but also extra “matter” inside where the small and large
intestine sit. Gas and fecal matter push out on the belly. To counteract
this extra bulge:
1) Drink plenty of water. Dehydration leads to constipation. A minimum of
8-8oz glasses is recommended. Water is also the ultimate detoxifier and is
required for every bodily function, including burning fat!
2) Take in soluble fiber daily, which is found in apples, citrus fruit pulp
and beans. This fiber soaks up water, forming a gel that helps push waste
through the digestive tract. Other good sources of fiber are milled flax
seeds or inulin, which can be purchased as a fiber supplement.
3) Eat healthy bacteria. It is important that we have a balance of the right
kinds of bacteria in our guts to break down foods, synthesize vitamins and
avoid an overgrowth of the wrong strains, which cause bloating. These are
found in yogurt or kefir, though watch for flavored varieties with refined
or artificial sugars. Probiotics, a blend of good bacteria, can be purchased
from health food stores.
4) Eat breakfast! This meal will stoke your energy burning fire for the
whole day. It’s the #1 tip for inch-loss. And don’t skip meals. Rather eat
small portions throughout the day to keep the metabolism stoked.
5) Eat 1-2 handfuls of vegetables per snack/meal. Not only will you get
extra fiber, you’ll ingest an array of minerals, which help balance fluid
levels within the body, as well as enzymes, which are utilized in many
metabolic functions.
6) Eat slowly, as it takes 20 minutes to feel full. This will prevent you
from overeating.
7) Walk off your inches! Not only does the rhythmic action of walking reduce
stress, it balances endorphins and burns calories. It also massages the
colon, aiding in regulating bowel movements. Walking 30 minute a day is
ideal.
