RISING
WOMEN EXPERT ADVICE...
I am starting to see wrinkles! I know it’s the age old question (no
pun intended) but what can I do to stop time?
Let’s start with a short lesson in Skin 101. Your skin is made up of three
layers: the epidermis - which is the outer most layer, the dermis or middle
layer; and the subcutaneous; the innermost layer. Each layer has properties
that make your skin look and feel younger, however with age, these
properties deplete. Lack of moisture is the leading culprit.
The dermis contains two wonderful properties that play a part in preventing
wrinkles. Elastin are fibres that hold your skins elastic qualities.
Collagen is a protein that keeps elasticity and also maintains your skins
quality by strengthening blood vessels and playing a role in tissue
development. Over time, both collagen and elastin depletes within the dermis
resulting in your skin getting thinner and having trouble getting enough
moisture to the epidermis. The fat in the subcutaneous layer, which gives
your skin a plump appearance, also begins to disappear. This change in your
skins infrastructure causes the epidermis to sag and wrinkles to eventually
form.
Though nothing can be done to decrease the rate of skin aging, we live in a
world that has become more educated when it comes down to prevention. From
the movement toward organic skincare to state-of-the-art technology, we now
have the tools to defy aging from the inside, out. Let’s look at organic
skincare for starters. We have been blind-sided for years by aggressive
corporations brainwashing us with lies about how chemical ridden skincare
products will stop aging. The truth is that these products not only damage
our skin on a cellular level, their ingredients cause cancer and other
degenerative diseases. However, with organic skincare becoming more
available, consumers have a safer choice that actually works. These pure
ingredients stem directly from Mother Nature and are proven to have a more
positive effects on our skin, especially in the moisturizing department.
Today, we also have state-of-the-art technology, such as Microdermabrasion,
for instance. Though not a permanent procedure, Microdermabrasion is a
non-invasive epidermal treatment that removes the dead/damaged surface layer
of skin cells to reveal healthier new skin cells underneath. This stimulates
the dermal layer to produce more collagen and elastin, giving the skin a
firmer, more supple appearance.
By using natural skin care and treating yourself to a non-invasive treatment
once in a while, you can stop time!
