RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
Why should I use Social Media to promote
my business?
The short answer is because it works! Social Media has a huge audience.
People spend more time surfing online networks than they do watching
television. Facebook has over 500 million users with 600,000 new people
signing up everyday. LinkedIn has over 85 million accounts. There are over 2
billion views a day on YouTube. This is an enormous audience that shouldn’t
be overlooked.
While the number of users is staggering, what’s even more staggering is who
is using these networks. The largest growing demographic on Facebook is
women over the age of 55. The average age on Twitter is 35 to 44. It isn’t
just our kids using Social Media anymore.
The biggest reason why Social Media works is people like to do business with
people they know, like and trust. Realtors, mortgage brokers and small
businesses who deal directly with the public have had great success with
Facebook marketing. With Facebook, future clients can see what friends you
have in common (which builds trust), they can see pictures of you (which
helps them get to know you), and they can see how you interact with people.
Through Facebook, you can target your ads by gender, age, location and
interests. With targeted ads, you can write an ad specific to your audience.
You can also pay per click or pay per impression; this allows you to set
budgets and re-evaluate your ad whenever you like. There are no time
commitments like with other forms of advertising.
LinkedIn is arguably the best network for businesses that deal directly with
other businesses. Executives from all Fortune 500 companies have profiles on
LinkedIn. This is the place to be seen for business. Future clients can see
who you’ve done business with, read your blog posts, see your Twitter
updates, and read recommendations.
Remember the day of chat rooms? Twitter reminds me of those chat rooms. It’s
a great venue to research, ask questions and to see what your competition is
doing, as well as talk and interact with potential clients.
Think about it for a minute. Who do you like to do business with? People you
know, like and trust, or someone else? There are literally hundreds of
social networks each with own audience. A good consultant can help you find
the one that best suits you and your business. See you online!
