RISING WOMEN EXPERT
ADVICE...
I am just starting to build my coaching practice,
specializing in relationships, and I am having difficulty finding clients.
How do I market myself and find my target audience?
As Life Coaches, specializing in relationships, some do well, and the
reason is simple: If you establish yourself as an expert in your coaching
field, you will not need to find your clients; they’ll find you. Every
effective coaching practice is primarily based on one key element:
Establishing yourself as an expert.
Many coaches have a “shotgun” approach, coaching everything from business
executives to life coaching, etc. Though this may expose you to a wider
audience, it scatters your focus and dilutes your effectiveness. It also
hinders you from being seen as an expert in the areas where you really are
effective as a coach. To specialize in Relationship Coaching, you must be
seen as an Expert in Relationships:
- Offer articles for free to local newspapers, from large print such as the
Calgary Herald, to local suburban journals, entertainment guides, and
community magazines. Not only will this help establish you in the minds of
clients as an expert, but the more times you are “published”, the more
chances you will have of getting paid for being published!
- Contact local news media, from print to radio to television to Internet,
and make yourself available as a commentator whenever relational issues come
up. Media interviews present you as an expert.
- Offer free or minimal charge seminars on specific relational topics, such
as “Building Trust” or “Managing Money Together” or “Communication In
Relationships”. People who are enriched by you as a seminar facilitator
intuitively feel they’ll be enriched one-on-one.
- Put yourself forward as a keynote speaker to groups that focus on
relationships, such as divorce care or singles or marriage groups. Appear on
panels in the community or colleges or churches, etc., whenever relational
topics arise.
- Advertise locally. With all the dating forums available, buy ad space
where they advertise, i.e. adjacent to their ads, on websites, etc. The key
is local focus with high traffic.
As coaches, we want to be empowered to not only coach, but grow our
business. Position yourself so that your target audience finds you.
