WOMEN EXPERT ADVICE...
The older I get, the more aware of the state of my nails I become.
Help, I need advice beyond a by-weekly manicure! Sadly, your nails really do take a beating with
age. And as my mother used to put it, “The condition of your nails is a
‘tell all’ of the condition of your self-esteem!”, I can see the urgency for
us gals to keep our nails in tip-top condition no matter what age we are.
Who wants the world to look at our hands and immediately assume we have low
self-esteem because our tips are cracked and our polish is chipped.
So with that said I state that taking care of your nails is about as
important as a hot, bubble bath. Following is what I suggest you do to
enhance the health and quality of your nails...which, believe me, will
elevate your self-esteem:
From the inside out, your diet plays a huge roll in the health of your
nails. For instance, lack of vitamin A, vitamin B12 and calcium causes
dryness and brittleness. Lack of protein (recognized by white bands across
the nails) and lack of folic acid and vitamin C causes hang nails. A lack in
hydrochloric acid can cause splitting nails. Those white spots could be a
sign of insufficient zinc in your diet and that red skin around your
cuticles just may be a sign of lack of essential fatty acids. So change your
diet!
Start by drinking plenty of water and supplement daily with a high-quality
multi-vitamin. To add to your intake of vitamins, minerals and enzymes, eat
more fruits and vegetables. To strengthen your nails, supplement with royal
jelly, spirulina or kelp, which are rich in silica, zinc and B vitamins.
Visit your favourite health food store for more supplementing ideas -
they’re there to help you.
Now for daily maintenance, keep on those chips and cracks with a quick
touch-up with a nail file. And whether you like wearing coloured polish or
not, never leave the house without at least a clear top coat. This will add
a healthy gloss and sheen to those tired tips.
To avoid making your nails brittle or to avoid breaking them, quit using
them as tools! By just stopping the picking, scratching, pinching and
digging, you will give your nails a fighting chance in the beauty awards.
Another huge regime that can combat ugly nails is to always wear gloves when
washing dishes or using erratic cleaning products. Chemicals eat at your
nails.
On a final note, keep spoiling yourself with those by-weekly manicures!
