How does cleansing affect weight loss and ageing?
By Monica Hirai of Hirai Health Services Many people who have
tried cleansing have experienced weight loss and have increased their
youthfulness. Cleansing is necessary to both losing weight and keeping it
off for life. Yes, for life!
Two cleanses a year - spring and fall - are part of a healthy, regular
internal “tune-up”. There are generally three parts to cleansing the body.
The first stage is preparation. This is where you prepare your mind and your
kitchen for the task at hand. Think about your internal body as if it were
an old car; if you had never done a tune-up for 10 years, what would need to
be done? It definitely would take more than one day to get it back into
shape.
Second is the cleanse itself. This is done by using cleansing herbs and
doing colonics or enemas. A cleanse also includes drinking high fiber
beverages such as carrot or veggie juices, eating whole grains, raw veggies
and fruits.
Third is restoration. This requires making permanent changes to your diet.
If you do a cleanse for 3 to 4 weeks, you are more likely to have formed
some new habits, such as eating more vegetables and fruits and less grains
and animal proteins.
The cleansing part itself removes the “mucus matter” from low-fiber foods on
the walls of the intestines (both the small and large intestine). This
improves food absorption and you will need to eat less food to become
satiated. If you refer back to the car analogy, think about what happens
when you tune-up your car. You need less gas per kilometre because the
engine is clean and running smoothly. This is what happens in your body.
The liver is also purged through cleansing. The liver is especially
important for weight loss because you will be able to digest your fats
better and detoxify more efficiently because your liver will dump bile
faster. Bile increases bowel movements, which means the fat you eat will
absorb but not too much, because you will be eliminating ideally after each
meal eaten. The thyroid, which controls your metabolism, will work better
after being detoxified as well. Often it is necessary to support the thyroid
by giving it iodine-enriched herbs while cleansing.
Detoxifying will keep you more youthful because toxins are free-radicals,
which basically means they destroy other cells in your body.
