Maintaining
Control - Change Your Attitude, Change Your Business
By Sharon Doucet of Freelife International
How is your business attitude? When was the last time you took a few
minutes to discover your “core beliefs”? Do you over-analyze your company or
its programs and opportunities? Do you continually look for little things to
blame for your lack of progression? Are you convinced your up line is not
interested in helping you? The hard truth about your business is that for
every step you take forward, you can take several backwards if you are not
careful about your attitude.
We all need to look at our attitude to discover the “core beliefs” that
guide our actions. When we acknowledge that these beliefs are preventing us
from reaching the pinnacle of success, we can then change them. According to
author Tony Robbins, “It is our core beliefs that guide our emotions and
feelings. They also guide our actions and shape our destiny. Most of us live
in fear that outside forces will control us or we already believe that the
outside world does control us and that is the single most destructive belief
we can adopt. We can not control the wind, but we can control the sails.”
Only we control our thoughts and therefore our ultimate freedom. So what can
you do to begin improvements in your business today? Here are a few simple
steps to help you maintain focus and control of your business and personal
life.
1) Search Your Heart and Your Soul to Discover Your Beliefs -
Discover who you really are and what you really believe about various
aspects of your business. Do you believe you have to defend your decision to
join a Network Marketing company, for instance, or are you proud of your
decision to become an entrepreneur? Do you have a “lack mentality” or do you
have a “prosperity mentality”? Do you believe that there is already too much
competition in your area or do you believe there is enough business for
everyone? Do you believe that outside forces are controlling your business
or do you believe that you are in control of everything that happens? When
you take time to search your heart and discover the beliefs you are allowing
to control you, you have taken the first step towards improving your
business.
2) Assume Responsibility for Destructive Beliefs - Even if the
reason you believe a certain situation is a result of outside people or
external forces, you need to understand that you chose to accept this
belief. That’s right, we all have the opportunity to decide what we will or
will not believe in. You can believe the economy is controlling your
success, or you can believe that the economy is aiding your success. Once
you have faced the reality that you and only you are responsible for
everything you believe in, you can take the next step.
3) Replace a Destructive Belief with a New Productive Belief -
This is often the most challenging step. You need to control your mind
in order to control your beliefs! Every time that destructive belief enters
your thoughts say, “Thank you for sharing!” and immediately replace it with
a new productive belief. If you believe you will have major challenges in
your business, you will have challenges in your business. If you believe
that through the proper training and systems you can be successful, you will
be successful. Whatever you do or do not believe about your business will
happen.
4) Be Positive and Do Not Worry - Doesn’t it just drive you crazy
when others are negative? Don’t you feel so much relief when they leave? You
will be miles ahead of the next person just by thinking positively. Instead
of thinking, “I do not know anyone who wants this product/business”, you
could replace it with this thought: “Today I will meet at least three
people, or talk to three of my friends about this business/product.” Also
when you worry about things, you are actually focussing on that which you do
not want to happen instead of on what you do want to happen in your
business.
5) Surround Yourself with the Positive People in Your Business -
Let’s face it, we all know colleagues who are very negative about
business, and life, and you need to avoid them as much as possible. Negative
people are like quicksand and they will soon be sucking the life from you.
It is important to your success to hang around with positive people who are
moving forward and upward. This is especially true when you attend meetings
and events. You will gain much more from the meeting and you leave with a
positive attitude.
6) Setbacks Are Only Temporary, Treat Them as Such - Every
once in a while you may have a set back in your business. Oh well, get over
it and remember most setbacks are only temporary and it is up to you how
long they last. Actually, most of the time, it is those who have fantastic
starts in the business who often have the least patience when there is a
bump in the road to success. Those who have to work hard in the beginning
have the persistence to keep on working when the going gets tough. Keep
focussed, do not quit and you will soon be back on track.
7) Commit to Constant and Never-Ending Improvement - Are you
continually working to improve yourself in all areas of your personal and
professional life? According to author Tony Robbins, we need to have
“C.A.N.I” which is “Constant And Never-Ending Improvement.” If we are not
getting better, we are getting stagnant or worse yet, going backwards in our
business. What are you doing to improve? Do you continually read and listen
to materials to help you grow your business? Become a knowledge seeker! You
will be constantly amazed at how little you know and how much you still have
to learn.
Everyone has the same opportunity to succeed in business. It does not matter
where you live and it does not matter what you know. What matters is what
you believe and what you are willing to do to be successful. A wonderful
opportunity to be one of the next generation of millionaires is waiting for
you to grab it. Hold on and get ready for the ride of your life!
