I am a
Calgary, Canada based self-taught, full-time oil painter. I have also
resided in Halifax, Canada. I started cartooning comic strips for fun at age
8, eventually creating cartoons for my high school yearbook and the local
newspaper in Okotoks, Alberta. My love for art soon evolved into painting.
My earliest paintings were mainly realistic or
impressionistic in nature. I’ve dabbled in oil, acrylic, oil pastel, pencil
and ink and pencil crayon mediums.
Over time, I gained an interest in surrealism. I began exploring my darker,
quirkier side with odd, ambiguous paintings. I wanted to create strange,
playful and slightly unsettling images. This imagery was a fusion of
cartoon, surreal, symbolic and abstract art styles. I stumbled across a
unique style in the process. Excited about my new work, I began displaying
and selling my artwork.
Inspired by women, I began painting female portraiture. An art series
evolved, which has become known as the “Girlfriends Series”.
My main goal was to create alluring female imagery that
attracted and interacted with the viewer. The women are manifestations of
individual beauty and persona. Each one loves you back. This series led to
public demand for custom portrait paintings of all people; men, women,
children and couples. I portray people with liveliness and joy. They are
fun, stylish, flattering representations. This has kept me busy for many
years, allowing me to pursue my career full time.
