My
life as an artist has come full circle and I am very grateful to be at this
point in my artistic journey. As a child, I was constantly drawing sketches,
birthday cards and journals; I even “doodled” characters on my basement
walls wherever I could find an empty space needing a touch of artistry. I
excelled at realistic images of animals, using pencils as the main medium.
As as adolescent and through my teenage years, I was a competitive figure
skater where my artistic flare was also allowed to shine.
I completed my secondary education specializing in Business Administration
and ended up working in the corporate world. I then met my future husband
and moved west from Burlington, Ontario to Calgary, Alberta in 1992. We
married and started a family, and fortunately, I was able to stay at home
and raise my children. The love and happiness that was now a part of my
world helped to rekindle my deep-seated love for art.
I started painting on glass in 1999, and these pieces were initially created
as unique gifts for family and friends. This small artistic step soon
blossomed into something much, much more. I loved painting on glass but over
time I felt the need to experiment and move my love of bright colours to a
more enduring medium. While continuing my work on glass, I have expanded my
art world to include painting on canvas. Colour is my guiding principle; I
only have to see a box of paints and I am itching to play around with it and
create a lasting memory.
I am inspired by the interesting people I have met along the way and the
beautiful open skies of the Alberta foothills. This has all spilled over
into my work. Painting, for me, is a very emotional and fulfilling way to
live my life. I am happy to say that my work can be found all over the world
and locally in two galleries; The Croft Gallery (2105 4th Street SW, Calgary
- www.thecroft.ca ) and
the Saffron Studios in Cochrane, Alberta. Visit

“I hope you get pleasure from my work as much as I enjoy bringing it to
you.”
Leslie is an exceptionally dynamic artist and we are thrilled to showcase
her work on our May/June cover. Her colourful and expressive imagery is a
great reminder that as women we are not made of just one shade. Let all your
colours shine brightly and believe in who you are.
Thank you Leslie. Our utmost pleasure. We look forward to watching your
creativity evolve in the years to come |
