Creativity has been ingrained in
my soul for as long as I can remember. As a child, a simple weed turned
upside down became a beautiful woman in a ball gown, the roots being her
long flowing hair! I dabbled with various mediums and found them all very
interesting as an outlet.
A true Albertan, I grew up in Redwater and made my home in Spruce Grove with
my husband Brian and three sons. After we purchased a lakefront cabin at
Pigeon Lake, I found new inspiration in my surroundings and experiences with
family and friends. The beauty of a lake front cabin provided a backdrop for
my paintings and the great company of family and friends inspired me.
My sister - a regular visitor - and I feed off of each other’s sense of
hilarity to observe life in such a way that we find humour in it. I am
inspired by our experiences, may it be a play on words or an actual event.
Through conducting business interviews and continually observing people, I
discovered the “art” of body language, thus portraying the language in my
artwork.
My “Ladies of the Lake” theme was discovered in 2005 while I was
experimenting with various techniques and ideas. The facelessness of the
curvaceous characters allow the viewer to see themselves, their friends,
sisters, mothers or events which ignites pleasing memories in a
lighthearted, witty way through body language, stimulating the viewer’s
interpretation. They are beautiful and they are having fun in life. I love
to set a positive or relaxing mood that is light-hearted through my work.
Art allows me to express a part of my soul, and through it I discover
wondrous things. Creativity for me has nurtured my being into the woman I am
and I love to share the joy with others.
