Vicki Myers is a self taught artist who divides her time between urban
and rural lifestyles. Her summers are spent in Drumheller as co-owner of The
Melting Pot Gallery. When in Calgary, Vicki works out of her studio located
at Artpoint Gallery and Studios located in the Ramsey area.
Vicki views most of her work as surrealistic and has been influenced by
artist’s like Miro, Dali, Frida and Diego, along with a handful writers. She
finds ideas form from reading authors like Kurt Vonnegut, Jack Kurac and Tom
Robbins. Her paintings do not follow any formula in their subject matter,
but the use of color and line are always present. Painting from her
imagination gives her freedom to construct the composition along the way
without knowing just where it will take her.
While living in Drumheller, Vicki has been inspired by the landscape.
Although the places are real in these paintings, they have a surreal feeling
to them. Being out in the hills at night inspired the first paintings of the
area.
Horses have always been a large part of Vicki’s world and are ever evolving
in her work. Painting horses both realistically as well as in vibrant colors
that show their strength, Vicky captures their spirit.
For the past year Vicki has been
working on a collaborative project with two other artists called the
11lution. They have been painting an 11x7 foot canvas, double sided. On the
1st day all three artists painted, after that they each had nine individual
turns. At the end of each session the canvas was photographed. There were no
rules and all that was created had the potential to be erased by the next
artist. The three would all paint together for the last time, making a total
of 11 sessions for each artist. Then the final photo’s were taken.
11lution will be unveiled on February 1st at Artpoint Gallery and Studios in
Ramsey. At this time you will be able to view photos’ of the project from
start to finish as well as other works by the three artists. Artpoint
Gallery and Studios is located in Inglewood at 1133 11th Street SE.
