Gailanne
was born in Nova Scotia and moved to Alberta shortly after she turned 16.
Residing in Edmonton, Alberta, she attended Grant McEwan Community
College. There she studied Visual Communications, earning her degree in
1992.
Gailanne always loved to draw and paint from a very young age. Her passion
for manipulating color grew when she first started experimenting with oil
paints. She then moved on to work with acrylic paint on canvas. Gailanne now
occasionally uses both mediums in the same painting.
Over the years, she has painted everything from commercial and home wall
murals, to abstract sceneries and portraits. In 2004, she
worked with Krista Schlosser (founding President of the Creative Kids
Museum) mentoring young artists in a collaborative art project for the
Alberta’s Promise Annual Report. The following year, Gailanne donated a
three piece Triptych painting depicting children exploring their artistic
creativity, which is currently displayed in the Telus World of Science
Centre/Creative Kids Museum in Calgary, Alberta.
Recently, Gailanne has had the opportunity to travel and reside in mainland
China where she has been influenced by the beauty of the
country.
Her most recent work reflects her experiences from China.
Gailanne’s work is beautifully expressive and Rising Women is honored to
have this opportunity to share her creative spirit with our readers.
