I am an artist,
memory-maker and
a visual comedian who appreciates the harmony women have for one another.
Welcome to my “Ladies of the Lake” series. Using my senses either through
verbal communication, audible sounds, or by visually observing people, I
take moments in time, sometimes a split second, and freeze frame it in my
mind, then put it to canvas. My art is about friendship and sisterhood.
Since the “Ladies of the Lake” series was created in 2005, and since last
being published in Rising Women in 2007, this series has blossomed to 57
pictures in total. I have also created a new series called “Canadi-ANNAs”
which takes the gals into other regions of our marvelous country and away
from the lake.
As the “Ladies of the Lake” increased in popularity, I have been meeting
phenomenal women whose relationships have lasted up to 40 years or more!
They understand the relationship my gals have in my art and giggle when they
see themselves in it. The bond between girlfriends is so precious and dear
to them that they create special times to be with each other for feedback,
bonding, reassurance, and sometimes a cocktail or two! They cherish their
sisterhood. I value this bond of women’s friendships and depict that body
language and emotion within my narrative art.
To give back to my viewers, I host an online “Ladies of the Lake” Annual
Writing Contest held every February. The feedback I get about how my art
reflects in others makes me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. Once
reviewed by my panel of women judges, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners’
stories are posted on my website for everyone to enjoy. The winners receive
an item from the “Ladies of the Lake” series.
